About

Byamukama Foundation at Focus Uganda is a registered indigenous NGO with headquarters in Kampala. It was established in 2019 to teach people on how to prevent the spread of HIV and other diseases.

Founder’s Story

In 2009, the same infection claimed my mother leaving me a total orphan. Life never remained same as I had to look for the way to survive and proceed with education and take care of my young brother. I worked while studying and this alone affected my grades. I remember suffering from episodes of depression with suicidal thoughts because of what I was going through but thanks to the friends around me that encouraged me every day, NORYN(RIP) you really played a big role.

I remember seeing all stages of HIV /AIDS in my mum stage by stage. until God called her, and that traumatized me lot because despite the clear signs of HIV, my mother had never taken an HIV test until the last days of her life when we had to do it without her consent and obviously doctors got her positive and next phase was depression for her since she was not ready for the out comes.
It is on this point that Byamukama foundation at Focus Uganda exists to fight for those that are not yet infected, those that are infected and the naïve community. This oragnisation is entirely dedicated to fight HIV and its related infections through primary prevention via mass health sensitization throughout the country.

At 6 years of age , I lost my Dad due to HIV and grew up asking so many questions why don’t have a father and why life was that hard compared to others since I was staying in the village with my grand mother because my mother thought it was a better option than urban life.

Combating HIV and its related infections.

CORE PROGRAM AREAS

By focusing on the thematic areas below, we aim to make a comprehensive and sustainable impact in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

HIV Prevention

We prioritize prevention efforts to reduce the transmission of HIV. This includes promoting safe sexual practices, distributing condoms, advocating for comprehensive sex education, and raising awareness about the importance of regular HIV testing.

Treatment and Care

We work to ensure that individuals living with HIV/AIDS have access to quality healthcare services, including antiretroviral therapy (ART) and other essential medications. We provide support in navigating the healthcare system, connecting individuals to medical providers, and offering counseling and psychosocial support.

Education and Awareness

We believe that education is key to preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS. We conduct awareness campaigns in schools, communities, and workplaces to provide accurate information about HIV transmission, prevention methods, and dispel myths and misconceptions surrounding the disease.

Advocacy and Policy

We advocate for policies that promote equality, human rights, and access to healthcare for all individuals, regardless of their HIV status. We engage with policymakers, government agencies, and international organizations to influence policy decisions and ensure that the needs of those affected by HIV/AIDS are addressed.

Stigma Reduction

Stigma and discrimination remain significant barriers to HIV prevention, treatment, and care. We work to reduce stigma by promoting understanding, empathy, and acceptance of individuals living with HIV/AIDS. We conduct community outreach programs, engage in media campaigns, and provide training to healthcare providers and community leaders to combat stigma.

Capacity Building

We believe in empowering communities and organizations to effectively respond to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. We provide training and capacity-building programs to healthcare workers, community leaders, and volunteers to enhance their knowledge and skills in HIV prevention, treatment, and care.
